Melissa's Pet Services Equipment

SCREEN SIZE

The TH80v has a 10" screen.

TRANSDUCER ELEMENTS

This machine is equipped with a relatively high 80-element electronic transducer. The number of elements in the ultrasound probe are very important, and the more elements a probe has, the more information it is capable of receiving. The transducer's job is to emit an ultrasound beam, which is reflected by the body's tissues and returned to the probe.

PROBE FREQUENCY

The quality of the ultrasound transducer is arguably the most important part of the system the machine itself, and as well as the number of elements inside the probe, the frequencies of sound waves that it is capable of achieving is also of vital importance. With the TH80v microconvex probe boasts a frequency range of 3.5MHz up to 6.5MHz, giving me the ability to achieve the very best image possible for a range of animal sizes. What's more, its specially designed head size allows me to achieve optimal skin contact even with toy breeds - its small footprint easily gliding up the mid-line, and even between ribs.

MEMORY

The TH80v also allows me to store images permamently on my machine. From here, i can export these onto USB stick to email or print for clients. The TH80v can store 128 images on its memory.

Melissa's Pet Services Gel And Why I Use It

Ultrasounds don’t hurt a bit, but the gooey gel they use during the procedure can be cold, sticky and really, really messy. So why in the world would i use it and can i do without out it? Unfortunately, i have to use it and i can’t do without it.

Ultrasound waves don’t travel very well through air. So any little bit of air that would be between the probe and the skin would be a problem. And dry skin poses a lot of tiny pockets of air.

Ultrasound gel is a type of conductive medium that enables a tight bond between the skin and the probe or transducer, letting the waves transmit directly to the tissues beneath and to the parts that need to be imaged. It is formulated to act as a coupling agent and reduce static. In fact, the more gel, the better. Ultrasonic gel is usually composed of propylene glycol, water and occasionally a dye. The dye is more for looks than making it work better. It is usually clear and thick, and a little bit sticky. That way, when it is applied to the skin it doesn’t drip or run off. At the end of the procedure it can be wiped off easily.
